Ash speaks at TAD 2025

On 28th June 2025, one of our PPI advisors, Ash, talked at the Talking About Diabetes (TAD) conference in Liverpool. At the event, one of the largest gatherings of people with Type 1 Diabetes in the country, Ash discussed his personal experience with being screened, and testing positive, for Islet Autoantibodies. Although initially tested at 10 years old, Ash was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 16 years old, just 2 weeks after heart surgery. Ash went on to discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of early screening in Type 1 Diabetes, and introduced the UK Islet Autoantibody registry. The session sparked a lively conversation, with many attendees continuing to share their thoughts about screening, and support for the registry, throughout the day.
